About this Trip

Take in some alternative landmarks and enjoy delicious cuisine on this journey across Greece. Discover the historical treasures of the Acropolis in Athens, hike to the summit of the Meteora Monasteries near Kalambaka, and spend a few days lounging on the pristine beaches of Syros and Paros in the Cyclades.

This 9-day Greek vacation takes you from Athens to the Meteora Monasteries to the islands of Syros and Paros. It features first-class or deluxe accommodations, tailor-made tours, gourmet experiences, and is perfect for travellers who want to blend an island stay with a cultural tour.

Your journey begins in Athens, the Greek capital, where each step reveals treasures of the ancient past or the vibrancy of modern culture. Head on a half-day city tour to see the famous historical landmarks, from the Panathenaic Stadium, where the first Olympics were held, to the Presidential Palace and Temple of Olympian Zeus to the legendary Acropolis, where you’ll see ancient temples like the Temple of Athena Nike and the Parthenon. Close out your tour with a visit to the new Acropolis Museum.

From Athens, board the train and ride the rails to Kalambaka, a small town at the foot of the grey rocks that are home to the monasteries of Meteora. In the afternoon, you’ll head on an easy hike into the mountains to admire the views of these spectacular monasteries perched atop the rocks. You’ll hike the Agia Triada trail up to Alsos Rock and Agia Triada Monastery before reaching Psaropetra to watch the sunset from a panoramic lookout point. You’ll stop by the Rousanu Monastery before returning back to Kalambaka. The next day, you’ll visit three more monasteries of Meteora before riding the train back to Athens.

Gourmet Greece

Day 1: Arrive Athens

On arrival you will be meet at the International Athens Airport and then you transfer to your hotel. Athens, the cradle of democracy and birthplace of western civilization is a vibrant city where the new and old co-exist.

Day 2: Athens City Tour

In the morning you will be picked up from your hotel and start the half-day tour to Athens. This tour allows you to observe the striking contrasts that make Athens such a fascinating city. Our expert guides will take you to see the Panathenaic Stadium, where the first Olympic Games of modern times were held in 1896. Continue and pass by the Presidential residence (ex Royal Palace) guarded by the Euzones in their colourful uniform, the Temple of Olympian Zeus, the Hadrian's Arch, the Parliament and the memorial to the Unknown Soldier, the Academy, the University, the National Library, the Constitution Square (Syntagma). On the Acropolis visit the Architectural Masterpieces of the Golden Age of Athens: The Propylaea, the Temple of Athena Nike, the Erechtheion, the Parthenon and finally "the harmony between material and spirit", the monument that "puts order in the mind", the New amazing Acropolis Museum consistently rated as one of the best museums in the world. Return to your hotel and enjoy your evening at leisure.

Day 3: Athens to Meteora & Kalambaka by Train + Sunset Hiking Tour

The train for Kalambaka departs from the Athens rail station. You need to go at the rail station on your own at 7:00 am. Catch the train of 7:20 a.m. to Kalambaka in the morning from the Athens Railway Station and enjoy a trip that will give you the chance to admire the beauty of the countryside. Arrive around 11:30 a.m. in Kalambaka, a small town built at the foot of the majestic grey rocks, and crowded by the METEORA Monasteries. Arriving in Kalambaka, our English speaking driver will be waiting you holding a signboard with your name on it and will transfer you to the hotel. Pick up from hotel for a sunset Hiking tour - We will cross the rocks of Meteora from the Kalambaka side and up the Agia Triada trail going up between the Alsos rock and the Agia Triada Monastery we reach below the area of Tzertzis and walk alongside reaching a panoramic point of the rock Psaropetra (Fish stone) where we will enjoy the sunset. Finish the tour by walking among the path next to the Rousanu Monastery and back to the to the hotel. Please note: Entrance to the monasteries: Appropriate clothing is required. Ladies should not wear short skirts and must have long sleeves. Men are not allowed to wear shorts.

Day 4: Meteora & Kalambaka by train back to Athens

Today includes a visit to 3 Monasteries, at the end your driver will transfer you back to Kalambaka, where you will have the time to scroll around and have a light lunch (not included). At 17:15 p.m. the train departs from Kalambaka, and arrives at 21:25 back to Athens. On arrival make your own way to the hotel where you will spend the night.

Day 5: Athens to Syros

Today, after breakfast you will be picked up from your hotel and transfer to the port for your ferry to Syros Island which belongs to the Cyclades island group. It might not be as popular but that's where this island's charm lies. The capital of Syros Island, Ermoupoli, is considered one of the most picturesque Cyclades capitals. On arrival in Syros make your way to the hotel located only few steps from the port. You can explore this romantic island, wonder the streets of the capital town, Ermoupolis, that distinguishes for the elegant architecture. Get your lunch at one of the best restaurants in Syros.

Day 6: Syros to Paros

Today, after breakfast - start you way for the port for your ferry to Paros Island famous for the traditional architecture, the lovely beaches and its nightlife. Parikia and Naoussa are the main villages of Paros, where most activities are concentrated, while there are also other seaside tourist villages around the island. Arrival Paros and transfer to the hotel in the evening and enjoy dinner at one of the best restaurants.

Day 7: Paros At Leisure

The island of Paros is famous for its beautiful beaches, the traditional architecture, and the fun nightlife. Spend the day at you own pace taking in everything this hidden gem has to offer or find a quite beach and spend your day relaxing, swimming and snorkelling the ancient sunken city.

Day 8: Paros to Athens

After breakfast you will be picked up for your transfer to the port to catch the ferry for your embarkation back to Athens. On arrival in Athens port you will be met and transfer to your hotel. This afternoon, you are at leisure or choose an optional cooking lesson, where you will learn how to make an authentic Greek meal before sitting down to enjoy the fruits of your labor.

Day 9: Departure

After breakfast you will be transferred to the airport for your departure flight back to North America.
