About this Trip

Explore the sea that connects Europe and the Middle East on Agean Cruise. Bask in the Byzantine architecture and cruise the Bosphorus in Istanbul. See the Trojan legacy at Canakkale. Then hop your way between the most impressive Greek Islands, including Heraklion, Volos, and timeless Santorini.

This 8-day round-trip cruise from the port of Piraeus takes you to the most historic and beautiful ports of the Aegean. Your itinerary combines major world cities with the sites of some of the most famous legends in classical history.

Board the Celestyal Crystal in Piraeus, a port city just 12 kilometres southwest of Athens. Consider beginning your trip a few days early and exploring the capital, or simply book an extra day in Piraeus for a more relaxed, seaside vibe. Your first port is Istanbul, the great crossroads between Europe and Asia, straddling the Bosphorus. With your free time, explore the Blue Mosque and the awe-inspiring Hagia Sophia. Visit the city’s atmospheric catacombs, and enjoy magnificent views from the Bosphorus. This is a massive city with lots to see, so you’ll have two full days here.

The name Canakkale may not conjure images of ancient myth, but perhaps ‘Troy’ will. This is the supposed site of that historic city, and the Trojan horse – or at least its modern counterpart – overlooks the waterfront today. Whether the actual Troy exists only in legend is still disputed, but explore for yourself and draw your own conclusions. Your next port is Volos, the Pagaetic Gulf city in the shadow of Mt Pelion, land of the centaurs. Today, it’s an energetic university town full of traditional tavernas.

Greece & Istanbul Cruise

Day 1: Piraeus

The largest port in the Mediterranean and primary departure point for Greek Island cruises from Athens, Piraeus is a hubbub of activity that will bring your senses to life. With a sun-soaked promenade, al-fresco cafes and bars and countless shops, it's a place where you can easily relax with a glass of wine and watch the world go by.

Day 2: Istanbul

Split between two continents, Europe and Asia, Istanbul is truly unique. It boasts lavish Byzantine architecture and imperial mosques with sky-high minarets that make up the city's skyline; your first sight from the Bosphorus Strait on your Istanbul cruise. There's an endless list of must see sights to tick off, all conveniently packed into the Sultanahmet district.

Day 3: Istanbul

Continue your exploration of Istanbul today.

Day 4: Canakkale

Cruising in through the Dardanelles straits - straddling Asia and Europe; Canakkale may sit at the narrowest part, but its history is one to broaden the mind. From the cruise ship you can spot the wood Trojan horse on the vast yacht-lined waterfront promenade - serving as a taster of what awaits.

Day 5: Volos

Tucked in below Mt. Pelion, land of the mythical centaurs, Volos embraces the Pagasetic Gulf to one side and the dramatic mountainous Pelion Peninsula to the other. Step off the cruise in Volos and you are greeted by a thriving university city who's energetic pace will whisk you up into its whirlwind of activity, both at the port and in the tsipouradika - traditional tavernas- and set you on the course to uncover some real architectural gems, both ancient and neoclassical.

Day 6: Heraklion

Sailing into Heraklion port, the intimidating walls of Koules Fortress emerge from the sea to guard the ancient treasures found within the city. Capital of Crete, Heraklion is brimming with landmarks, world-class museums, golden beaches and a stylish nightlife scene that shape a destination to please everyone's taste.

Day 7: Santorini

The Greek Island, Mykonos, flaunts its double personality the moment you set eyes on it coastline. Basking in year round sunshine, its rugged rocky landscape blends seamlessly with smooth sandy beaches. In the distance, undulating hills host the island's iconic windmills turning in symphony with the seasonal winds that have branded Mykonos "island of the winds".

Day 8: Piraeus

This morning you will disembark after breakfast and head to the airport for you flight home, or choose to extend and enjoy all that Athens has to offer.
