About this Trip
This 15-day Australia vacation takes you from Melbourne to the Great Barrier Reef and finally to beautiful Sydney.
Your Australia vacation begins in Melbourne, Australia’s cultural capital and the world’s most livable city according to The Economist. It also just keeps getting cooler. You won’t find a more vibrant mix of arts and culture and high living standards in the country. Ground zero for the trendy scene is Federation Square, where you’ll find the laneway and rooftop bars and restaurants that lead the city’s culinary innovation. For more traditional sights, head to St. Kilda’s famous amusement park, Luna Park, or enjoy a pint with the locals in bohemian Fitzroy.
From Melbourne, head north to tropical Cairns, the nation’s gateway to the Great Barrier Reef. Cairns may be small, but it offers plenty of atmosphere. Be sure to shop the Promenade and take a dip in the massive saltwater lagoon before heading on an excursion onto the Great Barrier Reef. As the world’s largest living structure and home to over 1,500 species of fish, the Great Barrier Reef is a marvel. You’ll enjoy snorkelling on Michaelmas Cay, with the chance to just relax on the beach when you're done. After you return to Cairns, you'll enjoy a day at leisure, doing which you might opt to head to the Daintree Rainforest, the mystical home of the “dreamtime” that has been a significant part of indigenous Australian culture for thousands of years.
End your Australia trip in Sydney. Few cities are as naturally appealing as Australia’s largest urban centre. Blessed with a massive natural harbour and home to a diverse range of communities, Sydney is a city as gorgeous as it is vibrant. There are a lot of ways to spend your time while in Sydney, so follow your fancy and take advantage of the city’s multifaceted appeal. Be sure to visit the harbour to see the iconic Harbour Bridge and the Sydney Opera House. If you want to take advantage of the sun, head to Bondi Beach and bond with the surfers who turn to Sydney when northern countries grow cold. To say “G’day” to marsupials like kangaroos, koalas, and wombats, head to Taronga Zoo, or go for a full-day hike in the gorgeous Blue Mountains to get a taste of Australia’s famous wilderness. Sydney will also treat you well if you have an appetite for culture; with plenty of museums and world-class restaurants to keep you occupied.
This Australia vacation showcases the natural and urban highlights of this incredible nation.
