About this Trip

This 8-day journey through Costa Rica lets you experience the energy and biodiversity of this compact and beautiful country first hand and in just a week!

The Arenal volcano offers Costa Rican biodiversity at its most spectacular. It’s also a major stop for adventure travellers. You’ll have time at leisure to opt for a rafting, biking or wildlife excursion, plus enjoy a guided tour to learn more about the mountain and its incredible natural sights. Transfer to Monteverde and hold on tight for a zip canopy tour through Selvatura Adventure Park. More than just an exhilarating ride, zip lining is one of the safest and most spectacular ways to enjoy the local rainforest. You’ll also spend a day at leisure here to get a closer look. Your journey ends on Costa Rica’s beautiful Pacific beaches at Manuel Antonio before returning to San Jose for departure.

Wonders of Costa Rica

Day 1: Depart North America

Arrive in San Jose. Transfer to your hotel with the balance of your day at leisure to enjoy the city.

Day 2: San Jose to Arenal

Today, you will travel from San Jose to Arenal where you will check in to your hotel (3 to 4 hours). You will enjoy an afternoon tour of the Arenal Volcano. Transfer to the northwest side of the volcano where the tour begins with a hike along the trail "Los Tucanes" up to the Mirador El Silencio. It is possible to observe a great variety of plants, wildlife, magnificent lava rock formations and the Arenal Lake. During the tour, the experienced guides will provide interesting and educational information regarding the history of the majestic mountain and Arenal Volcano National Park. Enjoy a brief stop at a panoramic lookout point before transferring back to the hotel.

Day 3: Arenal

Enjoy the day at leisure or perhaps book an optional rafting, biking, kayaking or wildlife excursion (not included).

Day 4: Lake Crossing from Arenal to Monteverde

Arenal Lake is the largest and most important lake in Costa Rica. It was man-made, in 1974, in order to provide hydroelectric energy for the country. It is the home of different kinds of resident and migratory birds, including flycatchers, kingfishers, great blue herons and the anhinga. Some mammals, such as howler monkeys, can also be spotted on its banks. On clear days, the views of the volcano seen from the lake are spectacular.

Now enjoy a Canopy Tour in Monteverde. You will visit a 28ha/70acre private reserve located near the marvelous region of Monteverde, only a short drive from downtown Santa Elena. The tour begins with a short, guided hike that will take you through primary (old growth) and secondary (new growth) forests. Once you arrive at the beginning of the zip line system, your guides will provide you with all necessary equipment (helmets, vests, and gloves) and impart a safety orientation before your adventure begins.

You will fly through the treetops, becoming one with the canopy as you glide at a heart racing pace down 15 steel cables (ranging from 60mts/197ft. to 800mts/2624ft. in length) anchored to tree platforms. During your journey, you will have the opportunity to do some wildlife spotting, especially when it comes to bird species. The forests in Monteverde are teeming with life and this zip line tour gives you the chance to observe this precious ecosystem from a unique perspective. At the end of your canopy run, you will have the option of enjoying some rappel; descending down the 'Scary Tree' (the name of this tree says it all!).

Return to your hotel.

Day 5: Monteverde to Manuel Antonio

Today, you will travel from Monteverde to Manuel Antonio where you will check in to your hotel (4 to 5 hours). The balance of your day will be at leisure.

Day 6: Manuel Antonio

Day at leisure to enjoy the Pacific Beaches or book an optional tour of the National Park (not included).

Day 7: Manuel Antonio to San Jose

This afternoon, you will return by coach transfer to San Jose (3 hours). The remainder of your day is at leisure.

Day 8: Depart Costa Rica

After breakfast, transfer to the airport for your onward journey.
